Just ordered a GoPro Hero2!

Been looking for a way to get good footage of my rides out on my bike for a while now. I bought a mini DV camera for ~£30 a while ago, but mounting it properly is nigh on impossible, the quality of output was crap, and the operation abysmal - everything was controlled through 1 button and 1 LED!
So I've bitten the bullet and have ordered the Motorsports edition, LCD back, a 45Mb/s 32Bg SDHC card and the Sony Vegas Video editing suite!
Having seen loads of footage from GoPros I'm extremely impressed with the quality, and the flexibility of mounting options - what I really want to do is be able to mount it near my right foot to get the front wheel and suspension in frame.
What I'm not looking forward to so much is getting my head round editing! I'm a video virgin, and I'm hoping Vegas isn't too daunting to get started with - any hints and tips will be most welcome!

If it were me I would of probably just started out having a go with iMovie or windows movie maker on W7... they are quite good for being basic tools and will allow you to get the hang of the basics nicely.
I have jumped into Abobe Premier and Final Cut Pro before and its just too much if its your first time.

Well, a whole bunch of parcels have just arrived!
Given that I order late on Thursday evening, I'm well impressed - the memory card was sent Royal Mail as well!
The LCD back hasn't come yet, hoping that will be later on today...
Otis - I've had a bit of a play around with Windows Movie Maker, but thought as I'm going to learn how to do this properly, might as well get a full-on program and learn that, rather than having to do a conversion course, as it were.

Ride ridden, footage taken, and bits edited! On my second go with Vegas I felt much more at home, and did a much better job than on my 1st attempt - although there's one small bit where the audio track is from the wrong source.. 
I managed to burn it to DVD, which works, although I'm still not quite sure of the proper settings, and it's uploading to You-Tube at the moment. Should be finished uploading by 10ish tonight!

I think its safe to say that you have got to grips with that gear pretty quickly 
Amazing things those GoPros, cracking lens quality. I'd be inclined to edit out the start and finish for security reasons. Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but any would-be bike thief now knows where to find one and what tools to bring.

I think you may have a point there - I'll just have to do a Director's Cut! It's all good learning anyway, the more I play around with that same stock footage and see how much different edits effects the whole outcome..Weather's way too crap atm to go out get some more footage..

Good tip for Vegas - if you create .png graphics in GIMP (or photoshop or whatever) you can import them into Vegas and put in as a new layer and it will respect the transparent bits. Good for things like titles or obscuring bits of the video you'd rather weren't visible. Really boring video, but that's how I did the gear selection graphics in this:
