Jiving Jamboree

Went along to a great event at Hammersmith Town Hall last night, the Jiving Jamboree. Bands were The FretTones, Mary Jean Lewis and Si Cranstoun, all very entertaining.

I was thinking the exact same thing looking through that set Nick, your eye for both an image and a moment and your ability to capture the feel and timing of an event with your processing really is exquisite.

A lot of the people shots look quite low light, can I ask what camera and lens you use?

These were shot with a 5D MkII and 85mm 1.2. The indoor shots were mostly at 1.2 and ISO 3200, it was very dark in there.

You can't focus and recompose as it will go off focus as it is such a narrow DOF, most recomposing off centre is done by cropping in post. Centre focus and AI Servo or AI Focus to keep things as sharp as possible during the action. This is shooting right on the edge of what the camera can cope with, such shots have only been possible at such high ISO in recent history. I like the paradox of being on the bleeding edge of technology to capture the feel of a 50s nightclub
