Wireless flash triggers

Hi all

Thinking of getting some of these, although of course I am talking about the relatively cheap RF ones that appear on eBay that has a thing to plug on the hotshoe and then anywhere between 2-6 receivers to attach to the flashes.

Does anyone have experience with these? are they any good?

I have a 7D which does have wireless flash triggering, but its line of sight only and you need compatible flashes (expensive). I am hoping to literally buy a few old flashes off the market stall in town for pittance and use these RF triggers. Should work right? (of course flash control will be fully manual in this set up, I won't be able to control some of it via the camera like I can with my speedlite). Also gonna get a pack of filters or gels and a decent LED torch!

I've got RF602s and they work well, for the money.

The next steps up, Elinchrom Skyport and Pocketwizard are a lot more money.

I've got a few sets of RF602s and they've been reliable and worked very well, way better than you'd expect for the price. No experience of the RF603, but no reason to suspect they'll be any different.

So these allow you to fire the camera remotely as well as being a flash sync?

Yes, you'll need the right camera cable though, available for a couple of quid on ebay.

Yeah we have one on our Schlieren setup in the lab actually. Not for flash triggering (they are way too slow for that for what we want) but just for remotely opening the camera shutter. Theres a cable that goes from the receiver into the camera body on a port on the side and you get a little remote that lets you select between single shot, continuous drive, timed and Bulb. Pretty nifty considering the minimal cost.


Good to hear these are decent bits of kit. Not looking for massive distances either, I'm not triggering flashes that are on the other side of a sports hall for example. Will pick some up! cheers guys

Have a look at Pixel Soldier on Amazon. Build quality compared to the eBay ones I had originally is in a completely different league but they are only £27 For a Tx / rx set - or you can get boxed used 'as new' ones for £15 sometimes!
