Canon announce 5d Mk3

Is anybody here tempted? I've been waiting to upgrade my Mk1 for this camera but might see what happens to the used prices of the Mk2

I've been waiting a few months for this to come out, in anticipation it will mean a healthy drop in price for the MKII.....here's hoping! Canon rumours gives the 4th (Sunday) as the day for a price drop, but no info on how much it will go down.Got to say I am not that impressed with the spec.

The Canon is set to be a LOT more expensive than a Nikon D800. And the Nikon seems to have better features all round such as two different crop modes, more resolution, better video, USB 3, cheaper lenses in some cases and the option of the D800e for ultra detail. And the D800 is 20-25% less.
I loved my 5D2, and I will reserve judgement until the 5D3 is out and the price has hopefully settled, but so far it does not light my fire.

Not sure that I believe the review in that link when it says this isn't a replacement for the 5D mk ii but is supposed to sit between that and the 1D X. Not really enough difference between the mk ii and mk iii for that surely.
Glad to see they haven't gone for a big step up in mega pixels, the 21 from the 5d mk ii are plenty for my needs. I'm hoping it will have improved noise performance at very high ISOs and improved auto focus in low light on all focus points. Those two points would make it a winner for me. That said, I'm not at a point where I'd even think about upgrading my 5D Mk IIs yet.

Not that I can afford it, but I was quite surprised by how lacking the spec sheet was. I was expecting a lot more focus on video such as an articulated screen and even 4k video. I'm sure it focuses fast, but 6fps? Canon can do better.

There's not enough there to convince me to trade in my 5DII for one. Once it's been out for a while, the price has stabilised, and reviews have gone past the 'it's shiney and new so we ought to write something nice' stage, I might look at it again with a view to upgrading. Until then I am more than happy with what I have.
The tests between this and the D800 will be fascinating....seems like Canon have caught Nikon up on AF and maybe high ISO and Nikon have maybe got a more flexible camera as it can also be a 16MP DX camera and also shoot in FX RAW at different resolutions.
Will be fascinating.....
Canon's pricing does seem very punchy....mind the new 24-70 at comfortably north of £2000 really is even more punchy!
