Just noticed that Amazon has Lightroom 3 for £95 (apparently that's 34% off) - keeping in mind that Lightroom 4 is currently in beta of course.

Amazon have got Photoshop Elements 10 going for £34.99 - nearly half the price it was yesterday. Am quite tempted.

Lightroom is an incredible piece of software. Looked at the beta for 4 but for me it would not be worth the upgrade.

I had Lightroom, missed Lightroom2, then bought Lightrom3, not sure I am going to keep stump1ng up $200 every other year. I am happy with v3.6.

Ok, now I'm torn.

I love Lightroom, but never tried Elements - I love Lightroom's photo editing - the sliders are brilliant and make me, a novice photographer, into an, er, novice editor, but I like how easy it is to edit photos.

What's the big difference between the 2?

Elements is completely different to Lightroom. It's is a cut down version of Photoshop, but don't think of that as a bad thing as it includes pretty much everything an enthusiast photographer could want. It will allow you to do things that are impossible in Lightroom such as copying and moving/removing elements within an image, increased control of localised processing (e.g. sharpening) and much more.

I do most of my editing in Lightroom and then just go into Photoshop for those images that need something more doing to them that isn't possible with Lightroom.

I had LightRoom 3 software free with my Panasonic Lumix G camera. No idea what to do with it, does anyone know of a good website to explain some basics? e.g. is it better now to take RAW pictures than jpeg for use in LightRoom?
