Photo hosting website - flickr or AN Other?

I've started transferring my photos over from Photobucket to flickr, as flickr seems far more widely used and people actually LOOK at flickr.

BUT...the free account limits you to 200 photos. Is it worth paying the $25/year for a 'pro' account (which I'm really not), or are there any other options? (i.e. other websites worth using)

I'm after two things mainly:-
- Somewhere to host photos to link to this forum (among other places)
- Somewhere I can point people to and say "here's some of my favourite stuff"

I'm also considering venturing into microstock, now I've got a handful of photos which I'm properly happy with and might just compete with some of the stuff on here. Not sure if that affects things or not.


What do the amateurs on here use?

Flickr pro is good for the money.

If you want to showcase your own work and sell stuff from it Zenfolio is good.

IIRC the free flickr account stops more than 200 images appearing on your 'photostream' (basically a chronological log) but I think links to images over this limit will still work:

Flikcr is very hit and miss here (Dubai).

It was banned completely until about 18 months ago, now I can use it but most functionality over and above uploading, Groups as an example, is very hit and miss, I have to click on Groups about 15 times to get access to it.

I am hesitant to fork out for pro as a result, OP would appreciate any alternatives you may find.

I do have photobucket account, it's where I keep st that I don't want anyone to see

I use Flickr pro for my personal stuff, $25 isn't that much per year for the service. I've heard good things about 500px too.

I'm only ever going to stay an amateur, and a pretty average one at that - there are some people on here who have a creative eye I can only dream of...I can do the technical stuff but tend to work on law-of-averages for the truly good shots.

That said, as above, $25 isn't a lot I suppose...

Through Getty images, through competitions I wouldnt have entered without it, through commissions (tho they could have found me by existing means)

I'm another Flickr pro user. I have about 10,000 shots on there now, most of which are there purely as an additional back up and so friends can see them. It is worth $25/year for that reason alone IMO.

Anyone who has a btinternet/yahoo broadband arrangement seems to get Flickr Pro included.
