A stunning collection of timelapse vids all shot at Yosemite through day and night, don't know about you guys but the motorised linear dolly has been next on my list of goodies to acquire since the middle of last year...

Has to be about the best use for one of those digital photo frames I can think of if you could set it up to handle that.

I like these motorised dolly shots. I would really like to have a go at making my own. But the only time I can access things like lathes and CNC's and other tools is at the weekend when I dont have access to the building with those things in it.

Sorry for the stoopid question but what are the lines in the night sky scenes like 'tracer' fire? Planes, satellites, shooting stars?

With it being Yosemite the air traffic overhead is quite heavy with San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose airports all just a short distance (by air)

Definitely a must visit place, I've been lucky to work out here 10 years ago in the SF area and visited it then, and find myself out here again with work last year and this year so have been making the most of my weekends...

Lovely place to shoot but what let it down for me was the amount of flickering in the shots (especially in the blue sky) and the cloud movement was quite jerky in most of the sequences.

Just got around to watching it - stunning it truly is...definitely need to visit Yosemite at some point!

(Although I might stop short of rock climbing...those ants people on the rock wall was a truly humbling shot...)

That's amazing. How do they get the camera to move? And what sort of time delay are they using between shots?

They've gaffa taped the camera to the back of a tortoise. Depending upon which way they want it to move they lay a line of lettuce leaves.

For the water scenes they had to fit wellies to the tortoise.

I'm out in Yosemite (driving from San Fran to Lake Tahoe and then through the park on the 395) in 2 weeks time. This vid just makes me even more excited at the prospect! Just have a tough decision about which lense(s) to take.

You know that the 395 lies on the East side of the Sierra range? Unfortunately it doesn't go through Yosemite, it passes the entrance road to the 120 outside the East side of the park at Lee Vining (beside Mono Lake). The 120 through Yosemite is Tioga Pass road, and unfortunately it closed last weekend for the winter (as did another couple of the East-West passes over the Sierras).

That doesn't sound very promising. We need to get from Lake Tahoe to Santa Barbara and have a few days to do it in. Looking at the maps the 395 looked the best bet, going through Mammoth, Lone pine etc. Is there any reasonable access to the park along that route? (that won't take us too far out of our way or get us onto potentially treacherous roads if the snow comes down - although we're in a hire 4x4) - or are we better doubling back from Lake Tahoe towards Sacramento after skiing and heading along the other side of the Sierra Nevada? Just keen to find the most scenic route.
