Obscure S Video Problem

I have an old analogue Hi 8 Video Camera, and am trying to digitise a load of tapes by connecting it to the line in of a more modern DV camera. Unfortunately the footage come through in black and white with no sound. I have tried mucking about in the menus of both cameras to no avail. Both are Canons. Anybody have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Have you tried sanity checking the old camera by connecting it up to a TV S-video input - does it then display colour and sound?

What type of output connector does the old camera have? The newer camera might need it's input changed, S-Video could be a good shout, as often you get B&W issues with that, could also be an NTSC (American Standard) issue.

Any more details on the old and new cameras, that way we might be able to help a little more.

Old Camera is a UC X10 and gets colour when connected to a TV ok. Newer camera is ZR 30 and is NTSC. I guess this is the problem? Anyway round this?

Yes, NTSC will be the problem. I don't know the camera, so I'll have to have a Google in the morning (oo-er missus) and get back to you
