Anyone know how Image libraries work? take this image on page 398 for example from Getty, do you have to pay to publish their images in all scenarios or only in commercial instances?

Being blunt - you want to use it, you pay for it.

There are varying degrees of 'licences' available depending upon what/where you want to publish the image.

Whoever has liberated the image and put onto Thumbsnap are not complying with the original licence and therefor Getty/ManUtd could seek financial loss from them.
