A3 printer recommendations please

Hi all,

It's one of those "all my relatives have bought me Amazon vouchers" times of year, so I'm musing over the notion of getting myself a nice, shiny new A3 printer.

Budget is up to £350 absolute maximum, but anything under £300 would be a bonus. It will be used pretty much exclusively for printing photos.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

At the moment, the Canon PIXMA Pro 9000 MkII is the front runner. My wife's stepmother has the MkI, and she's had some cracking results out of it.

Anyone know what the differences were between the MkI and MkII?

Buy something else and print online!
In my experience it's always cheaper and usually better quality

Printing online is undoubtedly cheaper, unless you use a CISS at home.

I guess pinting colour at home has never really been cost effective, to some people though it is another very satisfying part of the photography hobby.

I have two A3 printers, an old Epson 1290S which is still going strong and a newer Epson R1400.

The Epson R1400 is available for £199.99 at the moment from PC World, and frankly that is an excellent price for the standard of results it can produce.

I've got an A4 HP colour printer which produces perfectly acceptable stuff. I'd just been getting frustrated by not being able to print larger stuff to hang on the walls.

A decent online printer is probably the best of both worlds, though. I can play around on the smaller printer until I've got to where I want to be, then send it off for a larger print to be produced.

Now I just need to figure out who to entrust the printing to!

Photobox doesn't usually disappoint.

Great value too, especially if you take advantage of their regualar offers. 2-4-1 etc

And they can worry about the colours coming out right!
