Canon Kit lens for junior photographer?

My 13 year old daughter has recently become interested in photography and has been asking for a 'cheap' camera for Christmas. She has been reading all my books on DSLRs and really wants to get out and have a play. After careful thought I've decided to let her start borrowing my Canon 350D (as its getting quite old now) but don't really want her to use my expensive lens's in case the worst happens. Does anyone know where I could pick up a cheap 'kit lens' or something she could use to learn the basics?

Does it have to be a zoom? If not, 50mm 1.8?

18-55IS will do her fine its a decent lens.

I'm beginning to regret selling my 18-55mm kit lens (the non IS version) for £25 now, as it it would be fine for doing timelapses on a spare camera when I don't want to tie up my main lens.

It depends what sort of thing she wants to photograph but as already said 18-55 would be good for general usage.
