Sony Alpha 35 - SLR vs SLT

Hi. I am trying to understand the difference between a SLT and a SLR. I have a Sony Alpha 300 SLR and a friend is looking for a DSLR also. He likes the 300, but that is a discontinued line now, so the Alpha 35 seems to sit as a comparable camera. Anyone any experience of this camera? One of the uses he wants is to connect up to a telescope - seems like Sony have a suitable adapter, but don't know if the camera is any good for this sort of photography.

I'm a fan of the Sony range, I was a Minolta Film SLR user.

The SLT range has some great features, best to check out the link above for all the details.

Because of the design they can make the cameras smaller than a DSLR which may or may not suit you.

One "downside" is that some older Sigma lenses won't autofocus with an SLT body - if you have any / plan to buy any older Sugnma lenses, check out Dyxum (http://www.dyxum.com/ ) if there is a specific lens that might apply to for you.

New Sigma lenses will be ok, there are no problems with any Minolta AF or Sony Alpha Lenses though.

Considering getting this camera - anyone got one or have opinions on it compared to other DSLRs?

A guy at work was looking at getting the SLT77, as it seemed to be winning all the awards etc, but when he looked through (at?) the view finder, he just couldn't get on with it, no where near as good as a proper viewfinder.

One of the concerns I have. With my FZ28 bridge I need to be right up against the EVF to view it properly which isn't possible with my glasses on.

Had a go with a Pentax K-R with an optical viewfinder the other day and had no issues with my glasses.
