Tamron 70-200 f2.8

Considering one of these to compliment my new k5. Anyone have one and can share thoughts.

I think they are optically ok but lack ultrasonic focusing that all the others have.

Yeah read that Rob. Looks like optically better than the Sigma but with the screw focusing. Also cheaper the the Sigma.

Not really worried about that though. Like everything you read conflicting reviews. It will be used for aviation as well as general stuff to compliment my Pentax 300mm.

Some say the lens is great but focusing is too slow for anything moving fast. Others say they love it for fast moving sports and don't have a slow focusing problem.

Planes do tend to be moving pretty fast and you don't get a second chance which is my only concern about this lens.

Remember focusing only needs to keep up with the relative distance change so planes coming from heft to right wont change distance to camera as much as coming head on.

True never thought of that. You're selling it to me Now you need to sell it to the Mrs .....
