D300s replacement

Anyone have any pukka-gen info on when the D300s' replacemnt is due?
I am looking to upgrade my old D80 and want a nice solid alloy bodied camera, rather than plastic as per the 7000.
Off to NYC in a few weeks and tempted to see what prices are like out there but could wait a few months and buy tax-free when away on tour.

Not heard anything at all from Nikon so very much doubt there'll be anything on the shelves before the middle of next year. It's got to be in the pipeline though given the D300s is essentially 4 years old albeit with a mid life minor update.

Thought about just going for a used D300? £500-£600 gets a low shutter count example and you could always sell it on if/when a D400 is unveiled.

Yep its a mag alloy body not plastic. Just bought one and so far its awesome.

To be picky, it's mag alloy on the upper and rear only as shown on this picture. The rest is plastic. Agree, it's a great camera though and a logical step from a D80.

Yep quite correct and point taken but compared to lugging the brick that is the D700 round its loverly lol. Not that I wouldnt have put up with that if I had the cash lol. Was exactly my step from a D80 after all my camera gear and lenses were stolen on a recent holiday

Whichever, it seems to compare very well to the D300S.

Nikon had anouncements planned but due to the Thailand flooding issues have cancelled them.

I wouldnt hold breath for now either.

Bummer. You make stuff in Japan but it gets hit by a tsunami. So you move to Thailand and that gets flooded too. Let's Nikon don't try to make stuff here!

Dont know if its been a Coincidence but with my first camera (a D70) i got some stuff on the sensor within the first couple of days of getting it, had it cleaned and not had any trouble since, very carefull with changing lenses ect.

early this year i pick up a D7000 just before a 3 week overseas holiday and same thing happens, has been fine since getting it cleaned.

I wonder if there is some extra static charge of manufacturing residue in there when new that causes the dirt to get stuck on the sensor. Dont know that i would take a new camera on holidays again....
