Macro tube bloom?

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem - basically got some cheapy macro tubes some time ago, just to see if I liked macro before spending on a lens. Last couple of weeks something I've been working on required macro so thought I'd break them back out, but I'm getting a bizarre bloom on the centre of the image, thus...



Anyone experienced this before? I'm getting it on both my D700 and D60, regardless of lens attached in front. Bloom varies with aperture and shutter speed, but it's always there to a degree.

I've looked back at the first lot of pics I ever shot with the tubes and it's not on those so a bit confused!

Hmm - use tubes a lot and have never seen that.

Maybe the tube is no longer fitting snugly and some light is leaking in ?

that was my first thought DD, seems to fit fine, and I wrapped a bit of cloth round it to check for light leaks with no change! I know what you mean though, that is exactly what it looks like isn't it!

Only suggestion would be to try a shot with the lens cap on and see if you still get it ?

I guess they're probably buggered anyway so why not just bin them and buy some Kenko tubes and do it properly

Good idea on the lens cap, why didn't I think of that?!!

LOL Probably because I've blown my budget for camera equipment for the next 10 years in the last few weeks and am currently eyeing up some Elinchroms as the final nail...
