it makes real photography stand out.

Hipstamatic is everywhere right now.

Nearly everybody I know has an iPhone, and of those people, nearly all of them have Hipstamatic on their phone.

Therefore as you can imagine, Facebook and Flikr is littered with images snapped with it.

I became overcome with interest and ended up buying it for my phone.

It's actually a lot of fun. Really well designed, great interface, and the effects are quite good.

It's not a serious tool by any means, but my opinion is that if it's giving pleasure to loads of people for £1.99 or whatever then it's a good thing and actually makes a few snaps on Facebook more interesting than usual.

Harmless fun for iPhone people.

Yes, for anyone who's not heard of it - there's some history back to a cheaply produced camera that was supposed to be cheaper than the film that was put in it - back 25 years or so. And within the last few years is known/reborn as an app for iPhone which replicates a series of "vintage" lens, film and flash effects to a "normal" iPhone shot as it is captured.

Some of the effects will take typically 15 seconds to "develop" - and interestingly some of the effects are such that the final image is not the same view as that shown in the "viewfinder" making more random the effect! (It also eats battery power when you go loose with it!)

Personally I quite love it - it's fairly harmless, and makes for fun. But some people I know get all wound up by it!

I have it on my phone and used it a lot when I first downloaded it but it's novelty has worn off a bit now. Think it is just a quick even cheaper way to get lomography type shots. I can see it being just a novelty though.

Not everbody wants to spend hours shooting, in RAW, then hours in PS etc tec tec.

It encourages some people to take photos - which is a good thing.

Is it any different than the photos produced by the 'old' equipment that formed the template for these effects? I guess its just more prevalent thanks to the interwebs


(I don't have an iphone so I haven't played with hipstamatic (and 'instagram' as well?) that much)
