Having come back from a holiday in the New Forest a couple of days ago and uploaded some pics to Flickr, I've noticed that I have some pics I really really like and am chuffed with, but they have not received the positive feedback I'd expected.
So what pics have you taken that you really really love/are pround of, but others have been ambivalent to?

Quite fond of this. He's my mates malamute.
I totally agree about not really needing praise from people you don't know.
I have a day job, this is a hobby that makes me happy. If I was trying to sell the pictures I'd worry about others opinion more.

I think it might be that so many shots get uploaded to Flickr every second that new pics do the equivalent of go off the bottom of the page so quickly these days.
Individual pics no longer get as much of a look in than they used to unless:
(a) you are lucky
(b) the image thumbnail is striking (or hints at nudity!)
(c) you post the picture in a number of groups
(d) you are a voracious commenter on other people's images

What annoyed me slightly was a suggestion on flickr itself saying comment on other peoples pictures so that they will comment on yours. I thought the purpose of commenting was to say good pic etc not just in a vain attempt that they will blow smoke up your arse as well.

Flickr is awful for that. You get some people who really network on there and have a following and get 10's or hundred of comments on, even though there photo's are mediocre or bland. Other stunning photo's and great 'togs get completely ignored. I personally only use flickr as a storage place, i upload photos that i know i might want to show people sometimes. I think i have about 3 comments all together on flickr, with over 100 shots uploaded! Maybe i am just s

There is a contact of mine of Flickr who's pictures are good, but not fantastic that has a massive groupie following, so much so that if he was to post a picture of a turd it would no doubt attract "amazing picture", "love the detail" and "what a wonderful shade of brown" comments.
lol. I used to have a contact who had a massive groupie following who, like your turd example, would write those sorts of comments on most of his pictures. Don't get me wrong, when he made an effort he had some really really good pics. Problem was that he got lazy IMO. He ended up taking shots at f/2.8 slapping a vignette or a LR preset on it and that's it. They all looked the same to me.His head finally fitted into his arse when he posted a comment on one of his pictures saying that because of his large following he was going to 'decontact' people who didn't comment on his pictures often enough.
Funny you should say that. I have a certain contact on Flickr who I added due to past work that I liked. His new stuff gets 5000 views and 100s of comments within a few days, yet I think most of the shots are average at best. Strange old place, Flickr!
To be fair he does leave constructive comments on my stuff even though he has 8000 contacts!
