reasonable price for Canon 40D

I am having a bit of a tidy up and decided some of my old photo gear has to go - top of the list is my old 40D Canon body only - anyone have any thoughts on reasonable price (especially if sold to a fellow PH'er as I like my old toys to go to a good home!)?

Guide price from MPB is £399 but that's obviously a trader with a period of warranty so a bit under that for a private sale.

I'd say so and it would be a great buy for someone looking to move up from the base levels (or even someone just starting out), I've had mine for about 20 months now and love it!

Agreed, I think £350 is a fair price. I paid £425 for mine last year including an official Canon grip, the shutter count was around 10k.

The 40D is such a good buy at less than £400. Although i've now got a 5dmk2, i'm not sure i can bring myself to sell my 40D!

I sold my old 40D on E-bay for just under £350 recently. I reckon they're a bit of a bargain at that price, especially after playing with my father in law's new 60D at the weekend which felt such a step back from a 40D in terms of usability with things like flash exposure compensation appearing to be accessible only though menus and not from the top buttons any more.

I agree with all your comments about the 40D - I only upgraded to the 7D for the fps as I was shooting some action photos for a magazine, but now it is just sitting in the box on a shelf - which seems wrong.

I've got the 7 but keep the 40 as a 2nd body, it's fair too good a camera to let go cheap. The only single let down compared to more modern stuff, is the quality of the LCD. Other than that, it really holds it's own.

I have a boxed 40D body which has seen very little use and I am not using it now I have bought another camera - if you don't want to sell yours, I would let mine go for a good price to a fellow PH'er

Likewise I love my 40D. It'll take something special to get me to upgrade, frankly...
