Printing really small images

How do I go about scaling a picture so it fits into a locket on a necklace? So, probably a bit smaller than a 1" image?

I assume I'd need it professionally printed - but how would I prepare the image?

I have LR and PS5 but more comfortable with LR.

Can someone give me some pointers?

use 'resize' and choose size

Just crop/resize the image to the exact dimension (at 300ppi), paste it onto the centre of a blank 6x4 (300ppi) canvas, then order it as normal 6x4 print.

And hope the helpful bloke at the processors doesn't think - 'ooh that looks like a mistake, I'll just expand it to 6x4'!

My horribly simple and wrong but bullet-proof method is to make a text box in Word, set it to the exact size you want it, remove the line and margin, then insert the image. Scales automatically, print onto suitable paper, bosh, never fails. And you can put the text box anywhere on the sheet you like so you don't waste a whole sheet of photo paper.

Indeed but presumably for most people this results in an acceptable inkjet image style. I would be OK with that personally but it's not the same as a 'proper' Fuji-style digital photographic output on print shop 'traditional media'. I think for that I would tempted go through the re-szing process, possibly crerating a few variations (exposure, sharpening) of the final image since images can look quite different when re-sized and on paper. Then do the re-sizes, composite to a standard paper size as you suggest and take the resulting file to Boots (or somewhere similar) and have a print made whilst in personal control of the process.
