Mach loop photography.

Having seen a few great shots on here, I've decided to take a trip to the mach loop with the dog and the wife. I shan't tell her why we're going to that particular spot, just that its a nice place to walk the dog!

Having looked on lowflymedia.com I think CAD West would be the most suitable place to get a good eye and earful of the aircraft.

My questions are:

1) Do they fly at the weekends?
2) Is the trail to CAD west a proper footpath that actually leads somewhere?
3) What time of day is it most likely that we'll see something?

They don't fly on the weekends, Cad west has a proper path that leads you to the top (its quite a walk)Basically the path will bring you to a corner where you go left and you just go straight up then just make sure you stay on the path and you can't miss it.

On flying times, between 8am and 6pm but I have had tornado's belt it round the corner at 7pm so its all luck. There is no timetable for flying so you could go there and not see anything so just be prepared for that.


Also take appropriate clothing as the weather in the loop can change instantly

Very good advice from Lloyd.

I went down twice the other month to the Bwlch. The first time it was blistering hot with a nice breeze. I was stood in shorts and t-shirt all day (and was very red by the end of it!). The second time the whether looked the same as the first but I was wearing walking trousers and a fleece top. By the time I'd climbed up it was overcast and blowing a gale, I would reckon 30mph winds no problem.

Luckily I'd taken a coat as well but unfortunately had removed the fleece lining. Anyway, after a few hours of no planes I was sat frozen solid, hands were white and I was thoroughly miserable.

I was just about to jack it in and go home but then a Tornado appeared through the loop. Within minutes the sun came back out and the wind died down, I was then that hot I had to take the jacket and fleece off.

Lesson learned, be prepared for everything. Next time waterproofs, gloves and hat are coming as well even if it's 30 degrees without a cloud in the sky.
