Opening Photoshop images

Hi,

Is there a way of opening Photo Shop images without buying the whole Photo Shop software pack?

Sometimes folks send me stuff that I cannot open and I don't feel I would be smart enough to use the full Photo Shop package.

I have the trial version on my Dell PC which has now expired and they want $78 for a key to unlock it.

I have seen an ad on Ebay for a "brand new" version for £32 which I may consider but I hear tales of copies and fakes.

Any thoughts folks?

I bought Paint Shop Pro. It's basically a cut down idiot's version of PhotoShop. I can't remember how much it was but it was less than £20 from Amazon a couple of years back. They update it every year, so if you can find last year's version, it will be significantly cheaper.

$78 for a key isn't for the full version of Photoshop, probably Elements.

Me again folks,

Tell me, will Irfanview or The Gimp grab my existing photos and attempt to rearrange them in its own programme.

I have heard of this happening and I don't think I want that.

Nope - they're both very non-intrusive and amongst the first things I'd install on any machine!... (In my 'workflow', being too cheap to have PS, I actually like to use Irfanview to view my untouched photos straight of of camera, with GIMP configured as the main external editor to be launched when I see one I consider to be a keeper that I want to do some post-prod on!)
