I'm at a puny +/- 80,000 on the D2X and 30,000 on the D3 - life in the old dogs yet!

(That still works out to about 40 photos for every day that I've owned them - I need to stay in more)

For Mac users this info is also available when you're looking at an image using the Preview application:

Either "Cmd + I" or "Tools > Show Inspector". Then click the Exif tab on the popup and scroll down til you reach "image number" in the left column (conveniently not covered by the ThumbSnap logo at the bottom of this screen grab)

That doesn't work for me, wonder whether the D3 or I is stripping that at some point?

Looked into it a little, Capture or View is stripping that info for some reason. I'll import a raw and see what happens

It's almost certainly Capture or View that's stripping it, I have an edited pic that gives me the info.

Anyway, My D3 is on Image Number: 57520. Just bedding in.

Doesn't support Canon RAWs, unfortunately.

But my 1DMk2N has been on continuous numbering since I bought it.

Nope. Never had any maintenance.

I only ask as mine 1DMK2N is on 130,000 (just broken in I know) Just wondered how much the new shutter mech is!

AFIK the 1 series is rated to 250,000? New shutter isnt that much (few hundred) or something.

Well life changes, the kiwi coastal town has changed a fair bit since you visited!

A couple of hundred quid on a camera that retails for what £4k+ isnt much for a once in 250,000 possibility!

True about Sumner! Hope the rebuilding is going well? (To the town - I recall you said your place was relatively unscathed)

As to the camera, it was 2.5k new (2007), not 4, but more to the point, it's certainly not worth that much now. You'd be lucky to get £750 selling one these days.

It's worth nothing to me from a cash perspective, to be frank - but it's worth a hell of a lot to me from a camera perspective as it's the only one I have, and I can't afford to replace it. Even with a lower model.

My original point being, a few hundred quid for a replacement shutter assembly is out, should it be required, but I think it's time to go for a service, to try and postpone the inevitable.

I realise its value now, but a canon 1D4 is £4k now and thats what it has to compare against for parts, same as an expensive car!


As for the rebuild, nothing is getting rebuilt. Every day another building or two(dozen) are demolished. Pretty much anything old and/or brick is going + many modern buildings. Both Cathedrals, the art centre etc will all come down.. We've 400 shipping containers in sumner acting as road barriers...

My 1D Mk2 is on about 118k, original shutter.

My 1Ds is on 250k, I got it cheap as it needed a new shutter at 242k, Canon Professional at Elstree put a new one in for £220 +VAT

Makes me feel like a baby compared to others.
From memory, my 550D is on about 6.5k in 3 months and the trusty point and shoot is on about 13.5k over 3 years!
