iPad and XD card reader?

Has anyone managed to find an XD card reader that will work with the iPad1 camera dock? I was hoping to us the iPad to dump photos to and as a viewer while on holiday but the direct download via USB from my Olympus (SP-570UZ) only gives some VERY low res images and neither of my XD-capable card readers will work ('too much power from USB' message). SD card readers are fine but not much use for my XD cards.

Why/how is a simple copy/paste download changing the images? Is there some obscure menu setting that says 'download for e-mail' or similar?

Well, tried camera download again so that could explain the steps to you and got offered a different menu this time by the camera under the 'PC' option and the 'storage' sub-option worked fine. It opened a set of thumbnails for me to choose downloads from then downloaded ok. Don't know why but it looks as if all it did first time round was to download the thumbnails without giving me the select options.
