Lens hoods and CPLs

Quick question:

I've not really used my CPL too much as I tend to use lens hoods, and they've always seems a bit fiddly when you're after quick shots.

If I was to use a CPL would this mean that I wouldn't need a lens hood? Or the need for a lens hood would be diminished?

No, they do two different jobs

I've always found CPL's work best facing away from the sun anyway, but agree that they're a phaff to use with a hood, so I normally leave the hood off.

CPL works at its best at 90 degrees from the sun. Hoods will just get in the way in terms of fiddleyness!

Or just use your hand as a quick hood.

A few lens hoods have a gap to allow you to adjust cpl's but not many.

You can get hoods for things like the cokin P system but IMO there not great.

And some lenses have drop in filters, the cpl has the ability to be adjusted at the body end.
