Nikon Coolpix 8000

I like to take photos at Trials (Motorcycle) and don't want to go to the expense of a DSLR due to the very amateur nature of my photos and the terrain I take them in. Clambering over and around rocks though mud and streams just does not seem the place to be carrying a large camera . The main problem is trying to catch the bikes "flying". Most Compacts just cannot get the picture and the Nikon is very quick to react to the button. So has anybody any experience of these cameras or suggestions for an alternative??

I have a Sony DSC-HX5V, which is a great little compact with very quick responses and a ten frames per second burst mode which is ideal for catching fast moving action. Arguably not the ultimate picture quality, but might suit your needs.
