Where to begin?

I get really bored of these threads in the General Gassing section when about cars so I apologize in advance.

I'm looking for a general purpose digital camera, something to take to car shows and out walking. So I'd be taking photos of scenery and vehicles, must have a sports mode for the races too! I'd like something fairly substantial and with a viewfinder and a reasonable amount of settings. I'm not after professional levels of quality its just for my own enjoyment, budget is around a hundred quid and I don't mind buying second hand. I've done some research myself but tend to find myself getting bombarded with numbers and letters and getting baffled. So, any recommendations?

If Mazda made cameras as well as cars it would be the MX5 for everything.

Until some scrote nicked it, we had a Samsung WB500. It had a Schinder wide angle lens, a good optical zoom, automtic setting for snapping away and quite a few otpions on the manual modes. It was pretty small and gave great all round pictures.

I think once I've saved the pennies up we will replace it with the newer version.

IMOA it was only a few steps away from a bottom of the range proper slr in terms of features but without the massive lens etc.
