Just loaded Doom on to my PC after many years absence. By today's standards terrible graphics, but the gameplay is a riot. Such a cool game!

Fave weapons, so many to choose from : chainsaw shotgun, chaingun, rocket launcher, plasma gun and BFG...mmm...messy...

Shame I now have the equivalent of motion sickness D'oh!

Yeah class. Thats what got me into PC's in the first place I remember my mate had to upgrade his cpu from a 486 40 Mhz to a 486, DX 50 (50Mhz).

I used to have it on my old laptop, but it is not as easy to be good at it because you don't have side step or free view (cant remember which one).

Its the game that started first person shooters

Same here. First played DOOM on a mates 486 DX 33.... I bought my first PC a month or so later.... a Pentium 90 with 16mB Ram (Might have been 32... can't remember!) and an AWE32 soundcard.

Mate came and installed DOOM, and promptly decided he needed to upgrade his PC immediately!

The P90 could play DOOM at full screen, full frame refresh, and with awesome (at the time) AWE 32 sounds.

Not quite.... first released in 1993 apparantly.

First released in 1993, DOOM became a phenomenon in PC gaming history and is widely recognized as the catalyst for the first-person action genre. Since its inception, the franchise has been one of the industry's best-selling PC series, with DOOM III already the most hotly anticipated first person action title currently in development.

It ran perfectly fine on my 486 25 sx and I have it running on my pocket pc too.

And I think you'll find Castle Wolfenstien predated it, but it wasn't as good.
