Hi folks

Quick query - can anybody recommend a microphone / headset thingy which allows my son to talk to his friends when he's playing Xbox?

Thanks in advance

My mate who plays COD 6-8 hours most days swears by these.

Spend the money and go for the X31's. Same as the link above but wireless.

I got the X11s, great headset, don't mind not being wireless as I'm next to my machine anyway.

The only thing is the mic is uber sensative so if he's in the same room as a TV / Radio thats on they will all hear that too

With that headset you can also mute the TV, which I can imagine could be a bonus for you.

Thanks for all your advice folks.

I've got him this one for two reasons; partly cost weeping but mainly because it should be dead easy to take back to the shop if anything goes wrong. Several of the ones on Amazon seem to have reliability issues and I'd rather be able to walk down to the shop to sort things than send it off in the post and have to wait for ages smile

Cost me £12.50 and he seems chuffed with it, although its weird listening to half a shouted conversation for over an hour.

I find the standard xbox headset mutes the game sound in the comms ear too much

Is the Turtle Beach X-11 any good? a lot of reviewers talk about the static hiss due to cheap amplifier. Anyone got one?

I'm interested now

The X-11/31 (wired/wireless) are very good at their price point - yes, there is a small static hiss, but you soon filter it out, and as soon as there's any action, you don't notice it at all. Even when it's quiet, you can still hear footsteps, etc. clearly - the quality of speech on the mike is very good too, and you have separate dials for game and chat volume, which is nice (instant mute for everyone if need be!).

I'm still surprised the OP bought the standard headset - I thought it came with all XBoxes anyway?

My son got the XBox 2nd hand from my younger brother (and I think younger brother got it fron an auction or ebay or somesuch). Hence the headset probably went astray somewhere along the line smile.

I agree with what Taffer said, brilliant headset. Everyone I know who has one is very happy with it too...
