Are X Box 360 games regional, like DVD's?

Our Xbox 360 has died. A month before the three year warranty expired!!

It was a UK bought model, as are all our games, but we now live in the Philippines, so no warranty claim was available.

I have the chance to buy an Xbox in the USA, (cheapest, but may not play our games)

Or, in the UK when I pass through (more expensive, but will definitly play our discs)

Or, in the Philippines (more expensive still, but may not play our discs)


So, will an XBox game play in any XBox the world over?

Not true at all! I have an american copy of halo reach, (It definitely didn't fall off a truck...) and it works completely fine even the online play, the only thing you can't do is get the download content.

Yes, and then when Microsoft find out, which they will unless you never connect it to the internet (ever again) they'll ban your Xbox live account and the Xbox's serial number from their servers.

Hmm, conflicting opinions.

I think games in the Philippines will be US format, if there is indeed a difference. But, electronics there cost about 30% more than the UK, plus any warranty is not worth the paper it is written on.

But then, buying from the UK or USA is hardly a warranty worthy exercise.

Oh also for fairly obvious reasons you can't sell american xbox games in stores such as game or gamestation as I found out

http://regionfreexbox.com/ lists those games where the developer decided not to impose a region on the game. MS leaves it up to the developers to decide if they want to do it, which is why some games are region-free and others less so.

Off-topic, I'd be more than happy to do a warranty claim this end, if you wanted to ship the Xbox and papers over, then arrange for the repair/replacement to wend its merry way back to you.

World at War doesn't seem to be on the region-free list, so that would be a disappointment if we bought a non-uk model.

Whether it would be financially justifiable shipping it all the way from the Philippines to the UK, and back, for a warranty claim is doubtful. Customs at the PI end would have field day, the charges and duties and taxes and bribes would be more than the Xbox costs.

It's determined by the publisher pre-production. If it is 'W' signed then it will work globally. More and more publishers are doing this as there aaare less restrictions on stock movement.

So, where does one locate evidence of this 'W' signature, to identify the plot?

Don't think it is visable in anyway. There is a website that you can check somewhere but you can't see on a disk if it is W or not. Only the manufacturers will know.
