I have been asked to "get him online" so can anyone help please

He has 2 profiles - same happens with both

When logging in with correct live email address and password it says the email address is associated to another gamertag - I cannot find out what his gamertag is and need to delete or find this setting.

Im not an X boxer and I am stumped - anyone suss it ?

the 2 profiles he has should be named using his gamertag so i guess he has 2 gamertags but obviously you can only associate one of them with online play. try signing in using both profile names/gamertags and see which one gets him online.

also try signing him into his 'my xbox' profile on the website first as messing about typing on the xbox can be a pain.

http://support.xbox.com/en-gb/pages/default.aspx if this doesn't work you may have to call xbox support.....

just a thought - if you go into the inbox of the email account you are using to sign in - does it give details of the gamertag in one of the emails from microsoft?

good point about logging into the e-mail address to check.

The other thing is that the gamer tags are case sensitive and space sensitive. If he is like a lot of people with capital letters in the middle you will have to check this.

I had the EXACT same problem. In my case my email address was associated with another gamer tag that I had set up ages ago on a Windows Live PC game.

Within XBox live, there is a 'retrieve gamer tag' option. Do this, type in the password for the email address and you are done biggrin

Your gamertag is your name online so the name of your profile.

On your controller, press the Guide button, and then press X to sign out.

Press the Guide button again.

Select Recover Gamertag.

Confirm that you want to continue and that you want to end the current session.

Follow the directions on the screen to recover your gamertag.

Full instructions are here.
