Pistonheads GT5 Racing Room
Discussion
Our nightly get togethers are now starting to include a lot more variety of racing than the current 333 thread can cope with, I though it best we start a new thread.
250/TONNE - SOFT SPORTS TO RUN FROM 1/02/2011
Classics for the single make racing as follows:-
CATERHAM
BMW2002
ALFA GUILIA
CLASSIC MINI
MK1 VW GOLF GTI
Future suggestions: -
500/tonne - racing hard
super saloons (max 600bhp/1500kgs) - sports soft
80's and 90's non-race cars - sports soft - 350bhp/tonne
60's and 70's non race cars - sports soft - 250bhp/tonne
touring cars/DTM cars - racing softs, max 550bhp (weight?)
GT1 category (team oreca viper, clk-gtr, macca F1 GTR etc) - no tyre limit, 1000kgs minimum, no power limit)
LMP cars - no tyre/power/weight limits at all
Drag Racing (although probably short lived would be fun for an evening)

As per other thread, some suggestions of mine, and other people:
250/tonne - sports soft
500/tonne - sports soft (what about racing hards? sports soft may be a right handful...)
super saloons (max 600bhp/1500kgs) - sports soft
70's and 80's non-race cars - sports soft, max 500bhp min 1000kgs?)
touring cars - racing mediums
LMP cars - no tyre/power/weight limits at all
i personally think it'll get too expensive having a new category each week, but how about making a poll with 10 or so categories, the 5 which get most votes are the 5 we use over the next couple of months?

Can I suggest a touring car / GT based set of regs at around 500bhp/1000kgs limit with unlimited tyres.
This would encompass a lot of nice metal such as DTM cars, the JGTC cars and the M3 GTR race car etc, and a lot of people will have suitable cars if they did either the JGTC or the DTM seasonal events in the past few weeks.

So 500/ton would be a handful on soft sports but non race cars from the 70s and 80s with a 500bhp / 1000kg limit wouldnt?

fair point.i reckon voting poll but first we need to get 10 definite categories, each with set rules. i'll start then:
250/tonne - sports soft
500/tonne - racing hard
super saloons (max 600bhp/1500kgs) - sports soft
70's and 80's non-race cars - sports soft - what about power/weight limits?
touring cars/DTM cars - racing softs, max 550bhp (weight?)
GT1 category (team oreca viper, clk-gtr, macca F1 GTR etc) - no 1000kgs minimum, no power limit)
LMP cars - no tyre/power/weight limits at all
so far ok?

I run in an American room that runs exactly those rules and it works very well using racing softs. Nice mixture of M3 GTR's, Xananvi Nissain, Toyota Supra's, NSX's, CLK DTM's etc.
ok i'll change to racing softs
edit - done. that's 7 categories already, just 3 more to choose then a poll should be set up. that is, if people are happy with those i've set out?

Can i suggest that we make sure that there is a car available in the Normal Dealership to make sure that everyone can buy a car if we need one.
For super saloons i think 600hp is too much. 500 will suffice. The rs6 isnt a saloon anyway!!
yes but it's only fair to be able to use the RS6 since it sort of is, and thats well over 500bhp, a standard M5 is also over 500bhp, and you can't talk about super saloons without an M5....!!For super saloons i think 600hp is too much. 500 will suffice. The rs6 isnt a saloon anyway!!
only thing that may be tricky in the dealer is the DTM cars? otherwise i'm sure there are cars out there which can be made to fit. LMP categories has the pug 908, audi R10, mazda 787B (or should there be a separate category for group C cars?)

I'd like to add a classic 60's and 70's only race (guessing 300hp per tonne)

Yes definatley otherwise we could spend all year suggesting catagories. Whatever is picked they'll all be fun because of the people racing in them. If we can't think of anymore then just get the seven up and lets get choosing. (I would consider lowering the weight of the classic race though as you'll alot of cars at 1000kgs (they were all pretty light in the sixties and seventies, Lotus Euproa, Elan, Renault A110 / 310 Alpines, Alfa Guilia's, a suitable bhp per tonne would be better.

all non-race car races to have no aero kits added etc as per usual.
so:
250/tonne - sports soft
500/tonne - racing hard
super saloons (max 600bhp/1500kgs) - sports soft
80's and 90's non-race cars - sports soft - 350bhp/tonne

that's 8. is that enough for a poll? how many should we pick top 3, 4 or 5?
edited 60's and 70's to 250bhp/tonne. or would people want more? or less?

Had a quick look through the car list on mygranturismo.net sorted in power to weight order and there's a lot of cars that would qualify for 550bhp/1000kgs, that would include virtually all the (plethora of) Japanese GT cars, plus all the DTMs and a few others.vicpolky said:
Yep there is some great stuff there that I'd love to race
added a 60's and 70's race category
are there any more people can think of? there are enough there to keep us entertained for a long while! we still have 333 and 400/1200 of course.
who is up for a long race around either la sarthe or nurburgring tonight (dry, but day/night transition), private lobby, i'll host? i'm thinking 10 laps round la sarthe, or 5-6 round nurburgring.
anyone up for that? i'm thinking either GT1 category, or if not many people have those types of cars yet, then DTM.
well?

i have a previous Gen RS6 that fits in nicely and i think the M5 is 503... so close enough to fit in the 500 banner. Whatever gets decided tbh, just saves a lot of modding on the rest of the cars.LocoBlade said:

are the jap cars any quicker than the DTM's? if so, maybe it should be european DTM's, with a separate category for JGT cars?Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
