The future of the xbox 360.
Discussion
I don't think it will be too long before we see a successor. Next big thing has to either be the loss of physical media, utilising much bigger hard drives and downloads of all games, or a cloud-based system like On-Live.
They'll keep pushing Kinect though, and I'll keep ignoring it, I have no desire to prance around my living room like a prat. The dusty Wii is testament to that fact.

3-5 kinect style sensors dotted around the room that detects the slightest head or hand movement.
Allowing the player to turn their head slightly in real life and the game view moves allowing a more realistic feel.
Unarmed combat tuition and games etc
Very accurate golf games where it can tell if you slice etc
Internet capability, Adobe Reader and office read only ability.
Bluray and acting as a media hub
Obvious graphics increase and physics processors additions
Xbox 720
Silent.....ok maybe thats taking the piss

Sounds good but in practice I have found this does not work well with allot of games. Remember your TV des not alo move so you end up with your head twisted to one side and eyes turning the other way so you can see the screen.Allowing the player to turn their head slightly in real life and the game view moves allowing a more realistic feel.

Not too convinced about the cloud/Onlive thing yet, maybe in another 5-10 years or so. A lot of the UK probably can't give the bandwidth and constant low-latency that kind of system demands, let alone less developed countries. It would be a tech support nightmare with todays tech They'll keep pushing Kinect though, and I'll keep ignoring it, I have no desire to prance around my living room like a prat. For combat, flight sims and driving games it is excellent, you set it up so that the slightest movement makes a bigger view change in game. Takes a bit of getting used to but flying a helicopter in Arma 2 banked over whilst looking down and left at the target is very impressive, it makes the whole game a bit more real.
Same when racing a car and looking into the apex, much much better.

Im not sure you will be seeing a successor for several years, if you remember the spring 2008 update(?). Which has allowed MS to send out updates without the need for the user to actually update. They also said that they have no plans to announce/release a new console in the near future.
I agree they will keep pushing kinect, they will also be looking to keep adding to the social side with last fm facebook ect.

The 720 isn't due for another 10 years or so. IIRC they still haven't broken even on the 360 let alone made profit to justify serious development costs of the new console.
Where did you hear that? I would put money on a new xbox in the next 2 years. Microsoft dont need to break even on the consoles, the first xbox lost loads of money.Edited by RobCrezz on Friday 7th January 16:41

The first one was made to not make a profit, but to gain market share.
not market share gained, now the money can be made..

So you not watchi9ng the screen and can't see what your doing?Allowing the player to turn their head slightly in real life and the game view moves allowing a more realistic feel.

Maybe a set of googles to go with that?
i'm guessing 3-5 years too.
the way the kinect has been developed i'm sure they have developed that significantly further than the version released.
they'll easily make the money back on kinect R&d and once that is popular enough - once wii has taken its final few steps then it'll be ready

Being able to download all new games(not just old classics and arcade games/additions)
Currently you can burn a game onto your hard drive, but you need the physical disk to unlock it
to play. (takes the point out of it unless your disk is fecked)
Full integrated kinect system and enhanced graphics would be great
Also multi platform online play would be a bonus.
More stable xboxlive experience (less host problems)
