Weird problem I'm having on my 60GB 'Fat' PS3 which I've had for a while now. It works fine, starts up fine, but when I go to start a game, the screen goes blank and nothing happens, I have to turn my PS3 off from the power switch on the rear. This has happened with 2 PS3 games and a PS2 game. The first game I experienced this on (Borderlands) actually began to load it froze on the first loading screen (With the Eridian symbol, for those who know). Also it's probably worth mentioning that if I have a disc in my PS3 when I start it up, it won't show up on the XMB, I have to eject it then put it back in for it to work. I first thought it was a problem with my blu-ray reader, but then I thought it was something to do with the HDMI cable. But now I haven't a clue, does anyone have any ideas?

have an original 60gb too, cant remember exact details but had a similar problem with regards to machine freezing and not shutting down - was power supply switch all the way!

does your machine refuse to shut down via power button or menu shutdown all the time? mine got so out of hand with this and other problems i had to send it to sony for a swap. still within warranty at the time so wasnt a problem. take it yours will be waaay past warranty now though.

sony helplines are pretty much useless ime. lucky to find anyone who speaks reasonable english! if you do, get there name and latch on to them. like golddust!

always wonder if there are patches etc that can be found for this type of thing as it shirley cant be hardware related all the time. never had any luck with that avenue tho.

Try playing a DVD if it works fine try a Bluray, if it fails it is the bluray drive that is gone.
