Wii Picture Quality

We got a Wii for Christmas and it's great fun. But I'm disappointed with the picture quality from it. I'm just using the supplied RGB cables plugged into the Scart adaptor. I understand I can buy Component Video Cables, but do they make much difference? My TV is a decent 100Hz Viera with plenty of choice of inputs on the back. Anyone any ideas? Any games with text on them are hard to read especially.

I have a Wii connected via the component cables to a Panasonic 37PX80B and the picture is fine - don't think I ever bothered with the standard cable so cannot give you a comparison. If I recall correctly (I bought it the Christmas before last) it can run with a higher definition/refresh rate with the component cable. Most reviews I read did state that the component cable made an appreciable difference to the quality.

I may be wrong but I think the RGB leads plugged in to the scart adapter will only give you a composite picture from memory. I upgraded ours immediately to component leads and the picture quality was much improved.

You need the component cable, and yes the picture and audio quality is significantly sharper and better with the component connection.

Also, if you get the component cable, there is a setting in the Wii menus to change so it outputs the higher quality signal over component.

(A further point, I think I read on avforums, is that if you download any classic Nintendo games, i.e. original NES Mario Bros., for a bit of retro gaming then they do not work over component - you have to use the standard cable. I think it's something to do with them not working at a 60Hz refresh rate).
