Logitech G25 vs DFP in Gt5

Hi all,

Can anyone who has used both on GT5 tell me whether the G25 is really worth the premium over the DFP?

I have a G25 currently which is nice with it's leather clad wheel, 6 speed shifter and decent pedals. Thing is I genuinely don't think i'm a serious enough gamer to really exploit it properly and I feel I'd be just as happy with a DFP. I don't use the clutch, nor the shifter really (I prefer the paddles)

Finally, what's prompted this is a look tonight at the g25 values on ebay. They seem to start at 180 and go onto 230+ so that would 100 quid in my pocket instantly after getting a dfp and the alfa could do with a new wishbone...

Let me know your opinions.

I run a DFP in GT5 and am on the whole happy with it, though as simracingtonight reported on youtube in their GT5 review, this wheel (and other Logitechs) have a problem with the brake calibration in that it is too sensitive, the merest touch locks the wheels. We get round it by putting the ABS on (1/5 is manageable but it needs to be a touch higher). They did however mention that other Logitechs suffer from this malady, so it might be worth checking out the simracingtonight review to find out if the G25/27 are affected.

DFP ? isn't that an old model ?

I've got a DFGT, which are about £80 at argos etc, no brake problems as highlighted above (sounds like its a problem when connected to a PC?).

No clutch on DFGT, sequential gearstick, its got buttons on the back of the wheel to emulate flappy paddles.
Anyway, just another option to look at.

Think I'm going to stick it on Ebay anyway after thinking about it last night.

I have found the brakes sensitive on my DFP too.I normally set the abs to 3, is it worth going any higher? I am going to see if the squash ball under the pedal trick will work. I have also found the FFB very strong, even set on level 1. I remembered there is the 60% setting you can do on the wheel, which makes it much better imo, especially on the rally tracks.

I've checked Simracingtonight's review and they report that both the DFP and DFGT have the brake issue (this is a problem unique to GT5). They said that every Logitech wheel they tested had the touchy brake pedal issue, which includes the G25 and G27.

ETA: It's possible this is an issue that will resolved in a patch down the line as GT5 Prologue didn't have this issue and it isn't a hardware problem.

The DFGT uses the same wheel/force feed back jobbies of the G25, I have used both and cant tell the difference. The wheel is well made and the the extra buttons on there do help. The only down side I have with it is the pedals and the buttons that replace the padel shift

I had a bit of a go on GT5 with my DFGT at the weekend and the one thing that killed it straight off was the locking brakes, every time you would enter a corner, the brakes would lock, although that was only set to level 1 ABS, so i'll have to try again with it a bit higher, but its definitely different experience to using a pad, and having a really stable surface to mount the wheel to is majorly important, same for the pedals.

The brake issue is very strange, although obviously a(nother) GT5 bug rather than a Logitech issue so don't let that put you off. The best workaround is actually to change the brake bias, not using ABS as that makes it less realistic. Open the tuning settings, select the brake bias controller and set it from Front=5 Rear=5, to F=5 R=3. This works well with most cars, tweak as required!

Will give that a try. Is the brake bias controller available on every car or does it need to be bought? I have hardly used the tuning shop so far trying to save money where I can (at level 14 at the mo).

Mind me asking what the 60% setting is all about? And how to go about it?

You can set the ffb to a setting of 60% rather than 100%, if you find it difficult to set it low enough for your taste. When it has powered up and done its calibration wheel spinning, you press R3, select and left paddle at the same time. The left led will flash once to indicate it is in 60% mode. If you want to set it back to 100%, do the same again and the left led will flash twice. Every time you switch the power off it will default back to 100%.

Back to my brake issue, I have found the brake bias adjust and tried F5 and R3. This did help a lot. I also bought a squash ball to put under the brake pedal. Basically you squeeze it in the gap under the pedal, and it gives a much more lifelike resistance. A reasonable press down now gives around half the pedal travel. A hard push will give full travel, but it takes a lot more effort. Def worth the £4 for the ball imo :-)

I was worred abotu this problem, however i got my DFGT today and cannot see such a problem, mine is fine and progressive. Not on or off.

I do get locking brakes, but only on some cars, I think its more to do with the speed/setup of some cars rather than the pedals. All you need to do is cadence brake, works a treat.

Well, the last 10 on ebay went for an average of £200, so I sould be looking for around £165 + P&P if I'm honest...

If anyone wants my G25 let me know as I'm going to stick it on Ebay tomorrow, make me an offer...

Will be a shame if you sell the G25, but cannot get a DFGT because there are none in stock...
