So I've just opened my presents from Santa aka gf and one of them is a kinetic plus the dance game. Has anyone got one and how is it especially the range? The reviews on Amazon so you need 7-8ft of space between the module and you.
I have just under 8ft between TV and sofa so should be OK
what games are good (gf admitted she bought dance game for her more than me bless her)

The 8' is for two player (but I suppose it is a more social thing than the usual games), and you'll get away with less for single player- definitely be ok for space.
The sports game's apparently a good laugh, and kinectimals is great- I've had a sneaky couple of hours on that before wrapping it up for my 4y/o daughter, reckon she'll love it!
I think with sports, dance and bringing up tiger cubs from the launch titles I've pretty much wrapped up the wife/gf, family, and beer with the lads scenarios.
There'll be a lot of tat to avoid amongst the first batch of games that will be done better later on (particularly thinking the fighting), and I'll definitely be avoiding gimmicks like Forzakinect.

Yep, i got Kinect from the gf too. Only got the adventures game so far, but we're having a great laugh on the rapids game. Also the game where you have to dodge the bars is good fun in 2 player mode. It does lag a little, but you get used to it.
I'm also after recommendations for games. I'm 28 so not interested in Sonic or Kinectimals, is the Sports game any good and does the football work very well? Think that may be my first purchase. Also, wont do me any harm to get a fitness game, any recommendations on that as there seem a couple out there.
Thanks guys and Merry Christmas...

Recently bought my Kinect controller too. Few handy hints...
1 - I used the packaging it came in and some no more nails tape to create a custom mount to put the controller on top of the TV. You get back an extra foot of play space and the controller is best further from the TV speakers anyway.
2 - The controller is analysing the whole of the play space. De-clutter the area and you will find it reduces lag.

Kinect Sports is great - thought that football was the worst game on there but upped the computer level and it was loads better. Table Tennis, Bowling, Volleyball all good. Track and field involves running up and down and jumping on the spot and is bloody hard work...Got Your Shape with it too and it is clever - not really realised how unfit I am.... need a bit of work on that I think.....

I have built a tower with DVD cases behind the TV, the extra height allows you to operate the Kinect in less space.
Adventures is great fun
Your Shape is evil and kills your body, I forgot how difficult squats were
Dance Central (I think that's the one) is again great fun and gets you into a sweat!!
Star Wars game is coming out in the new year, so will be 'swinging my lightsabre' soon

Can a mod change the title to sound a bit less like what my grandmother would call a Kinect?
I bought one today, along with Kinect Sports. I'm a pretty hardcore Xbox player, but this is highly entertaining. The games are great with loads of replayability (as long as you have friends to compete with) and even some of the more basic Kinect Adventures get you into a bit of a sweat. The online integration is brilliant, it's easy to upload videos and photos of you looking like a complete twazzock to the interwebs. The kit is pretty clever, being able to recognise individual people after a bit of calibration and automatically signing them in when they jump off the couch for their go.
Most played game at the moment is bowling on Kinect Sports. My 50-something mum got up and thoroughly thrashed me and my brother, and it's immensely satisfying when you bowl a perfect strike with the right amount of spin. Has anyone else cocked up their bowl so badly that they drop the ball, leading to a massive crack in the floor? Achievement ahoy!
In summary, it's ace. It's like a more intuitive Wii with a greater range of movement (i.e. you can kick and headbutt things/the ceiling/person next to you/cat) and of course the graphics are a thousand times better than the low-def Nintendo-box. If you've got a big enough room then get it (and you don't need a huge room at all… my play area is about 7ft away from the television by 5 ft wide at most, and we got 2 people in it. Just.)

Well I got myself a Kinect and after two days of playing I can hardly move my shoulders and arms!
It's a great piece of kit. A lot smaller than I thought it was going to be, a little bit lengthy to set-up but once it was going it has hardly been off.
I'm looking forward to seeing how games are going to use the Kinect in the future.

I've been trying but can't do it - my 3 year daughters managed it and shes also managed to bowl a ball down the wrong lane..... managed to score 216 so far. Favourite is Table Tennis on Pro - really satisifying having to smash the ball 2 or 3 times in a row as the computer keeps returning itI'm not entirely sure I managed it the first time, although lobbing the ball quite high last night resulted in a cracked alley about halfway down! I think playing in a small area helps as the sensor loses track of you and suddenly spots you somewhere else – hence the dropped ball. Twice last night I accidentally threw the ball straight into the crowd on the right hand side – much screaming

santa kindly dropped one off for my mrs
been away so not had much of a chance to play it other than a bit of dance central crimbo morning.. highly amusing!
reading some reviews i wasnt so sure (re: lag) but we had a right laugh with it, thought it was really good and the mrs (who isnt a gamer) was really chuffed.
looking forward to trying out the sports/party gamesi bought santa gave.
..now to persuade the mrs to move the kinect to the other xbox in the games room so i can get a bit of bowling on the go..

The dance game is brilliant for when friends are round with a few drinks.
I havn't gelled with Kinectimals yet, the intro is so bloody long and I have to go through it again as I named the tiger s
thead after my daughter had gone to bed, so now I need to start a new one for her.
The sports game is brilliant, I love the bowling.
How long till a golf game comes out, you'll need a pretend club to swing, preferably with a reflective club head so it can see if you slice or hook.
