After getting frustrated and a lil bored with the lack of progress on GT5 I flicked to my career game on FIFA11 last night. What I found was realisation of just how bad the single player mode is, My problem is the AI doing stuff that is actually impossible to do back regardless of the teams/players involved, heres examples:

FIFA RANT

  • Opposition AI Can pin point long range passes into space, the AI on my team always take up stupid and useless positions then opposition wingers/strikers always have acres to exploit and run into. Now im attacking, my wingers/strikers seem to hover behind oppos. players and 9/10 the ball gets intecepted, even if there is a clear pathway to your player, he makes no effort to "come to" the ball and the defender usually spots the pass and intercepts with ease. This has to be the most annoying thing on FIFA11
  • AI Close ball control, yeah ok I can do a bit, especially online, but it rarely comes off, the AI however can stop dead move the ball left/right slightly and leave your defender for dead. You try doing this and the defender simply comes through your attacker, taking the ball with ease and sending your player ass over tit, this happens regardless of the strength of the attacker imo.
  • AI Strength when holding the ball? Well even silly little players like Walcott can over power and hold off strong tackles from the likes of Essien etc? Its funny because they can hold them off for just long enough to pick a perfect pass or if ur player does power him off - its usually by the touchline resulting in an opposition throwing. You try to do this, again with any player, the AI simply smashes you off the ball with ease, usually resulting in your player on the deck. Holding "O" to send second defender to tackle is useless, they simply "rub shirts" and dont even appear to attempt to win the ball.
  • Defending still seems to be restricted, attackers seem to have a force field round them that you have to stay in e.g. a winger goes down the left, you know hes going to step back in but the "force field" doesnt allow you to put your player in the perfect position to stop the cut back option, instad it keeps you in line and the AI almost always cuts back.
  • The strange thing is, even when the AI play Brazilian "impossible" football in the build up, they are usually st at finishing things off? Id like to see AI strikers racing clear and slotting comfortably, instead they seem to take st shots or dribble in to close to the keeper?? Very unrealistic, especially as it usually follows incredible build up.
  • AI Pressure? I have paused the game numerous times in the past and analysed the positioning, sometimes there is no option to pass, you have 2/3 players round you, all close players are covered and sometimes the only option is a silly long pass, even back to the keeper sometimes, this is fair enough if you are playing a high pressure team, but when teams employ this tactic, there should be more holes to pick (it would help if ur AI players made an attempt to "come to" the ball or make a run) and the team employing such tactics should definatley tire quickly, theres no way teams could keep up the pressure as they do in FIFA11 for 90 minutes in real life!!

Agree on all fronts, still can't help but love it though!

The great build-up/poor finishing thing from the AI has been a recurring theme for ages now, can't stand it when they have literally 10 seconds on the ball but dribble it into the keeper! FFS, I'm not a glutton for punishment but at least punish bad defending!

I've found switching to the player receiving the ball and moving him towards it helps with the intercepting thing, but I appreciate it's not always possible.
