My FX5200 GPU hasn't a hope in hell of running it....
What the fop is one of those when it's at home ????
(not techy!)
Graphics card. I have a Gforce4 FX5200 with 256mb of DDR video ram.
Weak point of the system. But the moeny to buy the FX5900XT card has just been spent on Glasto tickets.....
I've been reading lustfully about the new GeForce 6800 cards but £400 for a graphics card... ouch! May have to settle for the FX5900XT
My FX5600 makes a brave attempt at playable framerates in Farcry, but even with a 3.2GHz P4 to back it up the framerate is all over the place: anything between 50-ish at best and < 8 at worst. Indoors with lots of action/smoke/badguys really kills things to the point where it's unplayable, as the movement starts lagging behind the mouse by a considerable margin
Having said that though it's a fantastic game, visually stunning and the enemy AI is incredible. No more wading in, all guns blazing stylee - very quick way to get outflanked and die!

I've been playing for a few weeks and I'm on the penultimate level. It runs pretty well on a GeForce 5900 Ultra with a 3 GHz P4, but I will be shelling out for one of the new 6800 Ultras.
The joy of peeping over a hilltop into a mercenary base and picking them off with a sniper rifle, shooting a gas cylinder next to their machine gun emplacement, firing a rocket into their midst or lobbing a grenade. So many ways to kill them!

Far Cry has THE most amazing water effect I've ever seen in a game. Not really into games myself but my bro's played it ok on his P4 2.8Ghz, 512Mb RAM, GeoForce somthing or other with 256Mb RAM. I'd say his computer is min spec (although on the box it's more then max spec!) as it wouldn't handle it on full graphics mode.
Might be a memory thing. Mine's also a 2.8GHz, but with 1Gb RAM and a 128Mb card (9600 something or other, I think - memory's failng today. £100 graphics card, anyhow, so nothing too spectacular), and it runs with all the toys turned on in 1024x768.
The water is lovely - the only game I've seen which has a realistic looking wave lapping at the shore type effect.
On-line play's lacking IMHO tho - there really aren't any servers running it at them mo. The online game itself (from what I've played of it) should be rather good, but I suspect the latest Unreal is taking all new online gaming at the mo.

just looked a the box and its a DVD game. And reading the comments above, even if my CD rom would read a DVD which it doent it 'only' running at 1.7ghz.... and I thought my machin was fast.. gone are the days when I upgraded to a 486 and wow...
the speeds are incredable these days. and by the next its doubled again.
Rome - just read a review at least that will be ok on 800mhz. So 1.7 will be good.

It is a good game
You do need a good PC to reap the rewards of the next gen effects though, having said that, it should play fine on most reasonably specced PCs ( 1.8GHz or higher, 512 MB of ram, a mid range graphics card, like a Radeon 9600, and of course, a DVD drive) having surround sound is a bonus too,, as it does sound as good as it looks,
however, I pick up my Tamora tomorrow, so I think far Cry is going to be playing second fiddle this W/E!!! lol

If anyone's looking for a second hand copy, my brother's selling his on ebay at the moment (expires in 5 days). He finished it in 5 days which is the longest any games taken him including Deus Ex 2! Email me and I'll send you the link.
hope this isn't against PH rules, please remove if so.
