Driver 3 has been delayed masisvely. The number of missions have been cut in half from 32 to 16 so I have heard. the staff are on crazy hours per week trying to get it finished.

I just ordered mine, they have them in stock at Play.com. I watched the videos on the oficial site and just had to put an order in that minute - it looks amazing!

Anyone here played it yet?

just spoken to the guy in Gamestaion which is attatched to my local blockbusters and it's out for ps2 and x box in the morning. Apparently the ps 2 version is lacking slightly in the graphics department "ropey" was the term the guy used. He recons the xbox version is far more superior.
There we are then.....

I just saw a demo of this on the a disc you get when you register your pS2.... I would descibe the graphics as ropey if that was anything like the finished article!

Driv3r got a 5.4 score on IGN:

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/525/525181p1.html?fromint=1

and got the exact same score at gamespot

www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/driver3/index.html?tag=mp_2to9

I've played it for about an hour over the past couple of days and I won't be opening the box again thank you very much. Shame, I REALLY wanted this to be good.

Well I've done a bit more searching, the reviews are in two camps, there's the low scoring 3-6 lot and there's the high scoring 9-10 guys. This makes me think that either it's a Marmite love or hate game... or money has been changing hands. I'm hoping that some people like it because Atari have printed 7 million copies. Your usual good game might sell 1 million world wide, an amazing game might sell 5 million and the best seller of all time will do 10 million - they've got a mountain to climb to get those sales.

It's as buggy as hell! Control system is uber shoddy.

We've had it in stock for a week or so, it flies off the shelf despite all this mind you.

Got it yesterday on the PS2 for my birthday. Only had a chance to look at the first few levels, and found a few bugs(*), but not sure if it will stop me from enjoying it.

(* - Managed to get out of a car and "fall" onto the bonnet of a car in persuit of another police car. Managed to surf on the car for almost a minute, including several sharp corners!)

Just played the first few levels and wish I hadn't bothered buying it. The on foot action is the worst mess ever, especially the aiming and the camera view doesn't help much either. I was chasing a car and even though he was right in front of me it said I'd lost him and made me start again. I am giving it one more go later and if things don't imrove then it's straight on eBay!

Why release this game before planned when it's half finished?

This is a massive scandal in the games industry.

Atari gave a few mags "exclusive" rights to the game, then for some reason recieved lots of 90% reviews

They then shipped the game early and banned "official" reviews until the official release date...by which time everyone had their pre-ordered copy.

Now we are seeing 30% reviews.

Biggest pile of tat I have played for a long time, ruined the Driver brand and ripped me off for £32!

Oooo, this is getting fun... no not the game, the controversy. A small thread started on another forum I visit a few days ago regarding the honesty of games magazines. Within 48 hours there were 33 pages of posts, with many many complaints of 'review scores for cash'. Editors from the respective game magazines have even joined in the arguments and are trying to justify their high scores, it's all getting messy.

You can read the thread here (now at 48 pages)

http://forum.gamesradar.com/viewtopic.php?t=43524&start=0&sid=99bbedc9fa607710dfae443482d90fd6

All the other games magazines and websites have picked up on this and are circling like vultures above the two offical publications, ready to tear them apart.

Looks like heads might roll.

This does lead to a good question, how honest should magazines be? When you pay your £5, are the offical publications entering into a contract to supply you with the truth? Or can the consumer be legally lied to?

I bought the game , read the bad reviews here and played it......
I was totally depressed!, i have been waiting for this game for ages and it is second rate, no....third rate at best.
I returned it the next day to gamestation and got a full refund along with the bewilderment of the manager who said they have been going like hotcakes.
In a way the cars are very good and given another year of developement this game could have worked.
Unfortunately i don't think we have been lied to directly because of the games very clever inbuilt film editor. It is possible to take a trip and edit the shots to projuce the videos of footage that wowed us all.
i shall be more warry in future.
If you havn't bought the game yet then i suggest that you don't. Itchy fingers, cash in hand?, i know... rent it and waste £3.75, YOU WILL THANK ME FOR IT!
And now for some creative thinking of negative posts on games forums to get the equivilant monetry value of my time wasted and dissapointment from the games manufacturer........By getting people not to buy it!
Moi? Devoiuse?.........I'll have 10grands worth of sales of them for messing me around. MWHA ha ha ha ha ha

bilko, I did exactly what you did!

GAME claimed it was the most returned game they have EVER had.

Yes, I do think for £6 I want an honest review. The Offical XBOX Mag claims to be independant and only play finsihed material....not sure how much of that I believe.

How would it look now if EVO for instance came out and said Porsche pay them £50k a year....

hmm buy a magazine for £5 and get an honest review on a game? nice idea but difficult to be objective and it is kind of like an objective view on music.

or £3.75 for a personal review by hiring from blockbuster.
much more chance of knowing it suits you

used to do the subscription thing no longer after too many conflicting reviews,
