Can I hop into this without having completed Double Agent?

I wasn't keen on DA, got bored more than a few times then stuck but the story and reviews seem to indicate Conviction is a better bet.

certainley, i haven't got further than an hour in though (like most games!) the tutorial is comprehensive enough
