Dragon Age Origins - Specializations

My PC is a Rogue and I recently got the Assassin to join my party. I got his approval rating up and he taught me the Assassin specialisation. I can't use it though, it hasn't given me any new skills ???

What am I doing wrong, I have the same with Dualist which I learned from a female character in a bar in Denerim, but again it didn't give me any new skills ?

I am level 12. Is their something else I have to do to unlock the specialisations.

Been a while since I played but...

Most specialisations have to be unlocked. Once they are, you can pick 2 specialisations for your character - first one can be chosen at level 7, next one can be chosen at 14.

So a couple more level's and you'll be able to pick Assassination as your second.

Thanks, is that the same if I buy a book as well ?

I've noticed some shops in the game sell books that teach you specialisations but they are pretty expensive, should I put off buying them until I am about to level up ?

Also, can my other characters learn specialisations as well, or just my main character ?
