PS3 Cracked?

I know 1 person managed to eventually crack the PS3 but from what I seen of it it seemed like quite a bit of modding would have to be done 1st so it was very unpractical. I've just noticed a website I use quite often (NZBMatrix) has quite a few games for download with the odd comment on wether or not the game works. I've done a quick Google search but not got much info so I was wandering if anyone else knows any info about this?

PS Freedom / PS Groove is what you're looking for, although if you've updated to firmware 3.42 you've missed the boat.

Not sure which version I have but it's been updating n all that so I probably have. I'll still do a search for that though, could even be worth getting a cheap PS3 to have a fiddle with. Thanks.
