PS3 Blu-Ray Issue

Hi There

I have run in to a problem with my PS3 (60GB) with the console not playing any Blu-Ray disc's. I have come across a site http://www.consolewerks.co.uk/ which can repair this issue for £90, just wondering if anyone has had this problem as well and also if anyone has used this company as i do not want to buy a later playstation console's as they are not backwards compatible

£90 is probably about the going rate but when you consider working 2nd hand 60Gb PS3's go for about £120 then it's not so much of a bargain. Sony I think have a flat repair rate of £120 but then again the above applies too.
Alternatively buy a Yellow Light Of Death (YLOD) 60Gb PS3 off Ebay which go for about £60-£65 + P&P (make sure the Bluray drive was OK), swap the Bluray drives over then sell the dead one on again as spares. Total cost probably £40-£50ish.
Be aware though that the circuit board on the base of Bluray drive may need to be swapped over in order to match it to your motherboard.
It's simpler than it sounds, check youtube for PS3 Bluray repairs. The only special tools you need are a security torx drive for the cover screw (although you can get away with a normal flat blade apparently) and some small posi precision screwdrivers if you need to swap the Bluray board over.

Or you could buy a new deck from Jack of all Games:

Match the model no. of your PS3 to the correct laser deck, whip out a screwdriver and off you go.
