Its emerged in the last couple of days that the AI in the practice sessions, qualifying AND the race is completely fake. In other words, the cars that you see on the track are not related at all to the times that they are supposedly lapping at. Better explanation in the following link, but people are fuming.

I did actually notice something fishy. That is deeply disappointing though, if it is indeed confirmed.

There are talks of players literally at the rear of the AI cars to test the allegations, and being told by the game data that the car mere millimeters infront of them is 5 seconds ahead. 5 seconds at 180 mph is an awfully long distance, and deeply disappointing if so. Given the amount of players that have complained, it does appear to be true. Codemasters apparently held a crisis meeting, but its not as if a patch would be able to fix it. What a **** up.

Geeks on a game website find something minor to get in a tizz about?

It's hardly "stop the press!" time, is it?

I haven't put the topic in The Lounge have I? It's in the gaming section and will be relevant to people who come here.

When you pay £40 for a game which was advertised as realistic, you can't blame them. In terms of game enjoyment for the more hardcore racer, its a bigger deal.

Can't say it bothers me at all. Obviously the game is an illusion - I'm not actually driving an F1 car for real. I don't really care how that illusion is constructed as long as I find it involving and entertaining, which I do.

I'd feel cheeted buying a game 'simulator' that couldnt simulate 23 other cars driving round a track properly.

Driver Ai has to be the key thing in a race simulator to skim over it is pathetic.

Any one thought it could be deliberate to stop the player sabotaging the AI's flying laps on qualification?
As long as the race is true, it could be forgiven, perhaps? Just a thought...

Not when it's in the race itself as well (apparently) - hence why you can't follow other drivers in replay modes, or watch the rest of the race if you crash out. Pretty shoddy really, as I was enjoying the game frown

my thoughts too, I'm still enjoying the game

those that cry over such things need to remember that it is just that "A GAME" ...... and perhaps get out more, and maybe get a girlfriend too

Would this be why there is no timing between the guy ahead and behind you?

I find all this quite strange really, not sure what to make of it.

I enjoy the game, but feel cheated that a massive corner has been cut.

I also am not bothered by this furor - am finding the SP intensely enjoyable!

(also have not noticed any of the discrepancies they are complaining about. I have looked for them, but have not modified my driving to do so. Admittedly I crash a lot...)

It's funny, this game is riddled with faults but it's still great fun to play, I'm not all that bothered really.

wow. I was going to buy this game tonight, but i've certainly reconsidered.

a racing games primary function must surely be to have distances and times between cars correct!

if you read the comments by those of us that have it you will see this takes NOTHING away from the fun or playability of this GAME

try it yourself, I'll be surprised if you regret it

I've had the same thing repeatedly, where I've been within a second of Vettel and it's told me 'Sebastian's 5 seconds ahead' or something.

One thing I did wonder is if it varies with difficulty, but upon changing it to a custom difficulty it seems it does not. Bit of a shame but not a massive fuss. I will say that I'm finding it a lot easier than expected to bang times in which are consistently 2-3 seconds better than the AI on an intermediate difficulty with only basic driver aids. I'll be making it a bit harder this week, could just be that I'm getting more used to the game now.

I can't say it bothers me a great deal, the game really is superb to play. My only real gripe is I can't see a way to completely skip the rest of practices, which is boring as hell when you don't want to do anymore after setting a time you know the AI won't get near. Some proper split timings with cars behind or ahead would be nice, evidently that's not possible at all now.

Whilst in the pit garage, the title on the far right of you, iirc its 'Race Weekend', if you select that you can skip to qualy or the race direct from whatever your current session is.
