Xbox replaced, can I play saved games without going online?

How folks. Quick one.

I had the dreaded RROD a few weeks ago, and duly sent my 360 back, which has been replaced. As it arrived just before my house move, it got boxed and sidelined. I've driven up from the midlands to Edinburgh today, xbox in tow, fully planning to finish Red Dead (which RROD so rudely interrupted).

Anyway, for some reason it keeps forcing me to the start of the game, and will not load my "AutoSave", neither automatically, or if I go for a manual load. Now, the xbox is NOT online, there is only wireless in my hotel, no wired internet. I don't have a wireless adapter.

So, any way to:-

• Play my saved games without going online to "recover" my gamertag?

OR

• Hook up to xbox live to recover said gamertag through my laptop somehow

Aren't xbox saved games stored on the HD ?

They can't be stored online else you would be required to have an internet connection to play the games. Is this the case with Red Dead Redemption ?

If the saved games are stored on the HD then are you sure your saved game file still exists ? Do you have all your other saves for your other games and is it just Red Dead that you can't carry on with ?

It could be that your HD has been wiped while the console was being repaired and the system back to a state as if you had just bought it.

Hi folks.

My apologies for not being clear. Only my console went for repair, my HDD stayed with me, and they returned the console with the same serial number. I can see the saved games in Red Dead, and also in the xbox file explorer. Trouble is, when I load the game in Red Dead, it just defaults to loading the "first" mission of the game again!

I only have Red Dead with me to test...

No idea what's up with it though. It might well be linked to gamertag.

Have a look on xbox live support, you will need to pair the HDD with the new xbox, you will need to link the xbox to the net and log on to xbox.com on the laptop. I have had to do it twice with RROD replacements otherwise it will not allow you to access info or some such bo***cks, can not remember the exact detail now, but hope this points you in the direction to get it sorted.

Is this copy protection ?

Some of the PS3 games have locked save game files so you can't make backups of them.

you need to recover your gamertag. Hook the laptop up to it and bridge the connection in network properties in windows (copy LAN and internet connection, right click bridge connection and voila)
