PS3 wont go online!!

my ps3 has been refusing to go online for the past couple of days, it doesnt even get as far as the sign in section and sticks on the "please wait" message, i ve tried the network settings etc and for some reason its not finding the i.p address at all and wont go online in anyway let alone the ps network....is anyone else having the same problem and know how to sort it??!!

I had this problem after one of the firmware updates. I did a google search and it seems to be a problem that crops up from time to time. Rather unhelpfully I can't remember the solution I adopted was (I think I may have just completely re-setup my network connection on the PS3), but if you google 'PS3 PSN connection problem' you'll probably get some ideas of what to try.

i had a similar problem a few months ago but there was a specific error code, on that occasion i discovered online that i had to re agree to the user agreement then it was fine, even if thats the fix now i cant remember how the hell to do it!!

are you using the wifi to get online?
if so i had the problem on /off for a while, with no real solution. i got around it by using powerline adapters, and have since had no logging in problems. i do not think the ps3 wifi is great unless it is rigth next to our router.

i m using a wired connection via the pc, the pc is going online fine, i really dont get why the ps3 wont!!

My ps3 says that the network is currently down for maintenance. Any ideas if it actually is?

might be an ip conflict. Turn off all devices accessing the internet through your hub and just let the PS3 do it's thing, it can clash occasionally from what I've read. If that works, then turn back on your other devices and let them automatically find an ip address.

i had a suspicion it may have been a network maintenance issue but there was no message!

still wont go online after 5 days! i ve tried absolutely everything i can think of that usually sorts it, none have worked and now am really out of ideas.... if it was a network maintenance issue i d assume there would be a message etc, it just wont find the I.P address and go online in any way.

only time's ive not been able to get online was due to system update's needed actioning.
it took me a while to find that out!.. several reboots etc .. its a shame it doesnt tell you one needs doing when you log on (unlike the xbox).

i guess youve already checked that though?

you said your connecting via your pc, youve not changed any 'internet connection sharing' settings on the pc by accident? - and no joy plugging the CAT cable directly into PS3?

Why not stick a wireless router on and see if the PS3 can find the network and connect to it?

i thought i may have been a system update issue but there was no message and even if there was i wouldnt have been able to download the update anyway as it wont go online at all!

what happens when you plug the pc's cat cable into the ps3, rather than into the pc and then ICS to PS3?

i guess another option would be (assuming you dont have a wireless router as your not using it) would be to add a wireless access point to your network - connected into your non-wifi router, and then just use WiFi in PS3 to connect.
- probably get less lag/better ping rates than using internet connection sharing from your pc.

Might be worth downloading the firmware from the Playstation website and applying it manually via a USB stick.

ah ok, i must miss mine somehow .. dont recall ever seeing an update needed message - which is why the first time it happened it took me a couple reboots (of both ps3 and router!) till i realised!
