Access Violation dodah
Discussion
Ok, so I have a bit of a soft spot for the Jewel Quest games, and at weekend spent a whole £5.99 on GSP's 7 Wonder of the Ancient World, sort of one of those types of games.
Gets it home and later on installed it, it installed fine, and then when you double click on it to start it, it goes through an initialisation thingy, and that's where the problems starts, its get so far along and then crashes, coming up with the following
Access Violation at address 004DB7C4 in mondule '7 wonders of the ancient world . exe' read off address blah blah,
Have tried it a few times, and each time its coming up with either a different read address or a different violation address.
I have even unstalled and re installed, it does want me to send an error report to microsnot, but then we know that just goes straight into the spam bin!
Have tried googling it, but not getting very far, any ideas on what could be causing it and what I need to do (apart from abandon trying to play it)
Many thanks

It's dereferencing a NULL, or otherwise invalid, pointer.Gets it home and later on installed it, it installed fine, and then when you double click on it to start it, it goes through an initialisation thingy, and that's where the problems starts, its get so far along and then crashes, coming up with the following

It could be doing that for a multitude of different reasons. In order of likelihood, a dependency is missing or looks dodgy. It might just be that there is a general but subtle bug, which is only triggered by your particular circumstances. If the application is installed properly, the only thing you can really do is better replicate the environment it is most familiar with.
So if it was written to run on windows XP, then use MS Virtual PC, and run XP as a virtual machine. Install the app on that, and it'll probably work fine.
I am using XP Pro,
Spec for game says...
xp/vista
pentium 3
256 mb ram (got more than that)
Direct x compatible 16 or 32 bit video card with 128mb vram
Directsound compatible sound card
100mb free hard drive space
I have other games wanting a very similar if not the same spec, and they work ok
