360 RROD - probably asked a few times, but please help...

...I can't find a conclusive answer.

It is 3 1/2 years old. The power supply is fine, but the console showing 3 flashing red lights, and the green power light on solidly.

Some thread say it has an additional 3 years warranty for RROD, on top of the standard 1?. The microsoft website says they will charge me for repair, although it doesn't say how much.

I have seen the variety of youtube advertised 'fixes' (penny trick, new thermal paste), but I don't fancy pulling it to bits.


I see the options being... Local PH'er who I can pay to fix it, or MS repair, or just buy na new one. What have others done with theirs please?

My xbox broke with e74 i didnt know it was repairable so bought a new elite, can pick elites up for real cheap and my old xbox is being sent to microsoft for repair tomorrow, if i was you i would sell your broken one on ebay, buy a new one, i think for xbox to repair will cost you 80 pounds, so its upto you really.

Fraser punch the serial number into the MS xbox warranty website..it will tell you exactly if your console is still covered

I tried that last night, and it expired in January 2010

Looks like I need to buy a new one...

The repair will cost £82.50.

Once they have validated the RROD, they will send you through either a reconditioned console (normally) or a brand new console (Rarely).

You get a new 12 month warranty.

I did this, they sent me through a damaged console. I sent it back and they sent me through a brand new machine.

Thanks for this, sounds like a decent option - especially given I have all the HD cables, HDD, controllers, WiFi connector, etc

After further googling, I watched a youtube vid of how to do the RROD fixes. It looks to be not too bad a process provided I get the right bits.

Firstly I get to pull it to pieces for fun, and then if I completely knacker it I can buy a new one anyway Not really anything major to lose.

I think this is the kit...
