Will you ever get bored of gaming?

I think about this quite a lot. I'm 34 and have pretty much been a 'gamer' since the age of 5. I don't play a lot, perhaps once or twice a week for a couple of hours. Normal life tends to get in the way, but I think if I was single and living on my own I'd probably play games for a few hours each night.
My wife doesn't understand it, but it's my way of winding down. I find a few hours on the PS3 much more entertaining than watching mindless drivel on TV. I do read books too, and have a social life, and play sport, so I'm not a complete couch potato. I do worry though that one day I'll turn the PS3 on, play for 5 minutes, and then be bored and never play on it again!
So, my questions to you. Did you ever just get bored and stop playing one day? How old were you? Are you still playing now at what's considered 'too old to be playing games?'.

), I do get bored with games and will switch off the XBOX for 4-5months at a time, then something new comes out that takes my fancy and im on it all hours again.I think as you get older you narrow down your game interest, ie I only really like realistic car racing games (Forza, F1 and Grand Turismo style not blur etc) realistic 1st person shooters and GTA games, not interested in anything else, unlike when i was younger and i wanted a new game every week.
I dont think you will ever fire up the PS3 , or what ever, and get bored, just lulls between epic games.
The only reason why older (say around 40+) dont play games is because they never grew up with them, kids nowadays do and so in 30years time, 70year olds like you and me will be wearing their VR suits shooting the s

Hmm, I think maybe the reason why I like gaming so much at the moment is that I have so many games that I want to play, but I don't have much time. 38, single, play between zero and 2 hours a night depending on whether I feel like it or not. Prefer games to TV. If I want information, I'll watch on iPlayer (or wherever) or read a website; the analysis and information you get is too shallow on TV. I do read a fair bit and also have a number of activities that get me out of the house and away from the computer (eg I didn't log in from Thursday about midnight until Friday 11pm last week IIRC cos I was doing other more interesting things).So, my questions to you. Worried that I might stop? Why worry. If I do decide it's boring and a waste of time, I'll do something else to fill the time.

my missus asked me if i would ever stop playing, short and simple answer...no!!!
27, got a 15 months old son and the only time i really get on is when she and the little un are fast asleep. so anytime from 23:30 onwards (usually til about 1/2 2 or 3am) is my gaming time. I do work full time and have to be up for 1/2 7 in the morning and go the gym straight from work so not a fully fledged couch potato but definitely in need of some sleep!!!!!

Generally find the same - I find gaming as a great way to fill in the gaps when I'm not doing other stuff. I generally play for maybe half an hour a couple of nights a week, maybe an hour on one night, and several hours at the weekend. Thankfully the missus likes playing as well, so it's never usually a problem. Were I on my own I'd probably play more though.
I've found as I've got older that I'm less easily pleased - games have to be really good to hold my attention, but if they reel me in then I'm hooked for a long time. I'll easily get a good year's worth or more out of the games I really like, and I'll invest money in further enjoyment (steering wheels, pedals, plastic guitars, etc).

Hmm, are there more than 24 hours in his days?!
TBH I don't really know how they both do it. The kids have various extra-curricular activities... tennis, horses, music lessons... both work full-time... father often does overtime as does mother... mother studying some post-degree course, too... I'm feeling tired thinking about it. 
38 and had a computer most of my life, the games I go for as I get older are more strategic or require lots of working out mathematically to make my toon better rather than mindless pew pewing although a rampage in GTA4 is always fun.

My oh doesn't understand it either as she sometimes asks me to pause my MMO to help her she does leave me to get on with it though and never moans.

she does leave me to get on with it though and never moans.Interesting question, personally I'm 25 and alot of my mates play games. I'd say we all play less but no-one has quit yet. I can go weeks without touching the console and then something like Red dead comes out and I'm hooked again for a fortnight playing a few hours a night. But then something will get in the way and I'll forget about the console again. One thing I have noticed is I rarely complete a game nowadays.
Pretty similar to the OP, I'm 34 and have been playing games since I was knee high (probably about 3 or 4 when my older brother got an Atari 2600). I doubt I'll ever stop playing them, I do go through phases of not playing much but I always go back.
Lately I've been getting 2-3 hours play in an evening, the missus is ok with it as neither of us watch much TV, she usually just uses her laptop while I'm on the Xbox so it's all good.
Things may change if we ever have kids, at least until they're old enough to play the video games with me!

41 and still not bored of gaming. PS3 for Racing games mostly GT5P for the last don't know how many years, with brief forays into NFSS, FIFA10 and TW2010. PC for shooters as I prefer mouse aiming, and online golf. Two of the best of which are free: Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and Shotonline Golf. Both great for whiling away a few hours
