It's 'finally' gone.
It a Falcon generation model, that recently has had funny graphics (blacks flickering to dark red etc), and finally, when I powered it up last night, no audio/video.
There are no red rings, the controller connect normally, and it spins up the CD tray, but then seems to just sit idle.
PS3 time?

how old ?
mine (few months after launch console) did this when it was about 2 years old, so it got sent off to m$ to get fixed. they do 3 year warranty on 3 lights and the one light E74, so maybe you can coax one of these out of it, if its young enough.
i would say no to the ps3 if you use it online mainly - i have friends with both who will play offline on the ps3 and use the party chat on the 360

Good luck; mine did this a couple of months ago; motherboard is fubar'd apparently. Exactly the same as happened to me.
If you overheat the XBOX with a towel, at the point it over heats your get 2 Red lights, and it will work for a short while.
Mine was 2 years 9 months old.
I did consider going the PS3 route, but with 8 months XBOX live left, 2500 MS points, plus lots of games, it would be quite expensive to swap over.
I paid the £82 to MS to fix the machine. First one came back with new 12 month warranty but a broken case and noisy drive. Raised a complaint and sent it back and got a brand new XBOX back to me.

Anyway, the 'overheat' trick has worked, albeit temporary I'm sure. I had a RROD the first rtime I switched it on after the overheat, but left it for another hour and now it ok.
Registered a repair ticket on the MS website, and it's saying it's free since I had the RROD.
Result.
